Parkhurst NuVision commits a lot of time and resources into supporting ongoing research to find ways to help improve the way our patients see.  We are not alone in this effort as many other clinicians work to research, develop and refine technologies and techniques in vision correction. We are taking a moment here today to recognize a significant piece of research into a procedure we take a lot of pride in, LASIK.  This recently published piece of research is worth noting because it reports findings from a worldwide scientific literature review of more than 4,400 peer-reviewed clinical studies – which represents a tremendous amount of data.

For those of you who are thinking about having LASIK, this study offers some incredibly good news about the procedure.  The study found patients are experiencing better visual outcomes than ever before and that the procedure has improved over time. The study, entitled “Modern Laser in Situ Keratomileusis Outcomes,” The study confirms LASIK continues to be a very safe and effective vision correction option that has only gotten better with the introduction of modern equipment, advances in surgical techniques and improved patient screening protocols. As a result, the study reports a global patient satisfaction rate of more than 98 percent.

The paper was published in the July 2016 issue of the Journal of Cataract and Refractive Surgery and you can find it here and read more about the study’s findings here.
